Biblioteca Statale del Monumento Nazionale Badia di Cava

About us

The State Library of the Badia di Cava National Monument (Salerno) is a state public library under the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, General Directorate for Libraries, Cultural Institutes and Copyright.

It is one of the eleven libraries annexed to the National Monuments and, like the State libraries, it observes the Regulations on State Public Libraries, contained in Presidential Decree no. 417 of 5 July 1995, on the basis of which it has drawn up its own internal regulations.

The Library possesses codices, manuscripts, 15,000 parchments and more than 25,000 loose documents. Printed editions from the 15th (incunabula), 16th, 17th, 18th centuries and the first three decades of the 19th century make up the historical collection (approximately 15,000 book units).

As of 1 January 2010, the library holdings amounted to 82400 volumes, including the historical fund and 400 periodicals, of which 86 are current.

The Library is located inside the Abbey of the Holy Trinity in Cava, with a single entrance.
